What is a Good Web Page?

October 15, 2009 by dashaver

Web pages are made for a purpose (if it is not made for a purpose then it is art not a web page), so the first test should be, Does it accomplish that purpose? Fix this purpose in your mind. The average user having thousands of choices will give yours about 10 seconds. OK quick look at your web page, can you see in ten seconds how to accomplish that purpose? In the real world of pass or fail e-commerce that is the only consideration.

The absolute worst thing you can do to your web site is making it a work of art. Art is a personal expression and a web site is intended to be used by many people, therefore it should be designed for them. Most generally people do not like and will not buy from a company if the web site is hard for them to use.

Great point! Such an obvious thing but apparently missed by way too many people either building the page or having it built. What is it therefor? Sometimes someone has to point out the obvious. Thanks!!

website usability

Yes so many of my clients are more concerned about cool add-ons and their personal taste, they forget that their website is there to sell their product. Yet these same people may cater to customers in their business. I think the lesson of usability is that your website is about your customer and making it easy for them to use.
