Internet Service Provider

What Is An ISP?

The Internet is a network of millions of computers around the world connected to each other by phone lines, fiber optic lines, coaxial cable, satellites, and wireless connections. An Internet Service Provider (ISP) connects to this network and allows users to use their connection. ISP’s provide Internet service to your home or office allowing your computer to connect to the Internet. This could be a local or nationwide company. This Internet connection will be either cable, DSL, or dial-up. Dial-up is the slowest and cable is the fastest. Usually and ISP will also offer email and sometimes websites.

AOL And Comcast

AOL and Comcast are nationwide Internet service providers. It is possible to have a website and email without having an ISP although you wouldn’t be able to see your website or receive email unless you used the wi-fi at McDonalds or Starbucks.

An Internet Service Provider (ISP) simply allows a user to connect to the Internet so they can see their web site.
