Links to your web site are a statement by a user that they find your web site useful to them. These links to you say something about your content to the search engine and it relevance to users.

Instead trying to have a lot of links to your web site, your goal should be to have a useful web site full of useful, relevant content. Then the links and high search engine rankings will follow. The other way around does not work and is just a waste of your time.

Remember there are always clever things you can do to appear to be some thing you are not but these are only short-term gains. Link buying schemes and hidden link pages may work for a short time. These dishonest tricks only get you banned in the search engines. There are no easy ways to avoid work and you are only wasting time trying to find them. Besides that who wants to be some thing they are not?
